Crowns

Crowns
A dental crown covers and protects a tooth when a filling alone may not provide enough support. It can restore shape, strength and function while being designed to sit naturally within your smile and bite.
Crowns may be recommended for teeth with large existing restorations, significant cracks or wear, extensive loss of tooth structure, or after root canal treatment when additional protection is needed. They can also be used in selected aesthetic or implant restorations.
Before recommending a crown, we assess the tooth, gums and bite and consider whether other restorative options are suitable. The tooth is prepared to create space for the restoration, and an impression or digital scan is used to design the crown.
The finished crown is checked for fit, appearance and bite before it is bonded or cemented in place. A crowned tooth still needs daily brushing and cleaning around the gumline. Regular reviews allow us to monitor the crown and the tooth supporting it.
Modern crown materials can be selected and shaped to blend with surrounding teeth. The achievable result depends on the tooth, material and clinical situation.
Yes. The crown itself does not decay, but the tooth at its margins can. Good cleaning and regular dental reviews remain important.
